SUNIL EDIRISINGHE DINNER

A meet and greet dinner was held to welcome the renowned singer Mr Sunil Edirisinghe and his troupe on October 30th at the Association building to a capacity crowd of adults and children.

The sumptuous potluck dinner was organized primarily by Lakshaman and Chandra ably assisted by the EC and a few others. All attendees had a very enjoyable time specially since it afforded a rare opportunity to meet the esteemed singer and take photographs with him etc., a feat not possible on the day of the show as the singer and troupe were catching a flight immediately after. Some of the highlights are depicted in the photos that follow.

The enthusiasm and prompt response of all attendees to this function is much appreciated and we are thankful for all the delicious food brought. We are sorry for having to restrict the numbers attending due to the capacity of the building and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

CASINO

Another successful Casino was completed on November 29th and 30th thanks to the efforts of the following volunteers in alphabetical order who dedicated their valuable time. Rushan Amarawickrama, Celia Daniel, Chandani Devapura, Eeshani de Silva, Viraj de Silva, Himani Ferdinandis, Ramona Fernando, Shyama Fernando, Liyana Jayathilake, Tony & Priyanthi Joseph, Hifli Marikar, Sunil & Nelum Ranasinghe, Lakshaman Samarasinghe, Bandula Samaratunga, Mano Senaratne, Sandamali Senaratne, Chris & Sharmini Senaratne, Asoke Weerasinghe, Sarath & Gothami Wickramasekara, and Chandrani Wijayasinghe. Whilst the exact revenue brought in is not known at present the estimated value is around $80,000.00. The next Casino is scheduled for the third quarter (July, August, September) of 2017. The General Manager Tony Joseph, the Assistant General Manager Chris Senaratne and the EC appreciates the services of all above.

EXCELLENCE AWARD - NAME ON PLAQUE

Congratulations to Shehan Devapura whose excellent performance at the Alberta High School Diploma acquiring an average of 92% won him the priviledge of having his name engraved on the Plaque of Excellence in the association building. Unfortunately no money could be awarded as casino funds could no longer be utilized for this purpose. 

Our congrats also go out to all our children who have successfully completed the High School Diploma this year, and wish them every success in their future endeavours.

IN CONCLUSION

The majority of our members have given their time to the association and likewise benefitted from it. The EC comprising of the president Chris Senaratne, Vice President Viraj de Silva, Secretary Priyantha Silva, Treasurer Lakshaman Samarasinghe, Director of Social affairs Nelum Ranasinghe, Director of Membership Gothamica Wickramasekara, Director of Cultural Affairs Himani Ferdinandis, Director of Fund Raising Tony Joseph, Director of Publicity and Communications Sharmini Senaratne and the immediate past president Dilu Fernando would like to thank one and all for their support, assistance, valuable advice and input given during our term. We hope the association will continue to grow as one big family and the same positive support would be given to the new incoming committee and would like to wish the incoming committee all the very best in the coming year.
